When doing some practise recently for my A-Level German oral exam (with the topic of crime), I told our language assistant that 'Überwachungskameras zerstören uns nicht sehr.' He laughed and suggested I might have meant 'stören' - to disturb - rather than 'zerstören'. I'd actually claimed: 'CCTV cameras don't destroy us'!
