Republic of Ireland 1-0 Armenia
Armenia's Andre Calisir stops the Swansea striker in his tracks.

The game has settled down after those two goals in four minutes but Greece look the more dangerous side with Northern Ireland hoping to catch the hosts on the break.

Before tonight, John Egan's two international goals were both openers in what turned out to be 2-1 defeats (Portugal last year and Scotland on Saturday).
At the moment this Armenia side don't look capable of scoring one, never mind two, but stranger things have happened.

What a response to Northern Ireland after falling behind.
After the build-up they have had to this game, it would have been easy for their heads to go down, especially given the horrendous error from Bailey Peacock-Farrell that led to the Greece goal.
Ian Baraclough's men were level through Shayne Lavery - thanks to a pinpoint Steven Davis cross - within three minutes. And, my goodness, they needed that.

Quote MessageIt’s out of nothing, a great ball into the box and their defence just stands still. Lavery is always quick, always on the move and he gets the faintest of touches. It’s a great ball in from Davis – they’re looking for offside but there’s absolutely no chance it’s offside. They’ve gone to sleep and Lavery has nipped in behind them.
Greece 1-1 Northern Ireland
Greece go so close to restoring the lead as Giorgos Masouras fires a low shot against the post.
The rebound falls perfectly to scorer Dimitris Pelkas but he somehow scoops over from eight yards.
A big let-off for the visitors and there's good news in the other Group C2 game with Kosovo takling the lead against bottom side Cyprus.
That leaves Northern Ireland a point ahead of the Cypriots as it stands and out of the relagation spot.

John Egan again. In the 18th minute again. Just as he did against the Scots.
He's been the stand-in captain in Seamus Coleman's absence recently, and he's certainly been leading by example.
That'll surely settle a few nerves in the home dugout. Another goal before half-time and the Republic will be in fine shape.
Greece 1-1 Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland hit back four minutes after going behind as Shayne Lavery fires home from close range.
Steven Davis delivers a pinpoint cross from the left and the striker volleys low past Odusseus Vlachodomos and into the net.

Quote MessageThere couldn’t have been any talking there because they both collided with one another and the ball just drops to Pelkas. The goalkeeper should have claimed it but if he gives a shout to Paddy McNair, McNair gets out of the road. It’s poor.
Republic of Ireland 1-0 Armenia
John Egan opens the scoring for the Republic of Ireland!
A lovely corner in from the right hand side from Robbie Brady finds the head of the leaping Egan, who powers his header into the far left hand corner.
Armenia keeper David Yurchenko did get a hand to it, but was unable to stop it from finding the back of the net.
Republic of Ireland 0-0 Armenia
Another decent chance for the Republic as Nathan Collins gets on the end of a Robbie Brady corner.
Like Obafemi, he can't quite direct his effort on target.
Greece 1-0 Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell spills a cross and Dimitris Pelkas is there to slam home the loose ball.
Peacock-Farrell came out for the cross but failed to collect and his mistake proved costly as a grateful Pelkas netted the opener on 14 minutes.
As it stands Northern Ireland would be relegated from Group C2.

We're barely 10 minutes in, but this already has the look of a game we've so often seen in the last few years: the Republic laboriously trying to break down the deep-lying defence of a lower-ranked nation.
They often prove frustrating spectacles for Republic fans, with the occasional dip into embarrassment (see Luxembourg, March 2021).
Republic of Ireland 0-0 Armenia
First real chance of the game falls to the host as Jason Knight whips in a tantalising ball which Michael Obafemi gets his head to, but can't quite direct his effort on target.

That seemed like an age for George Saville to get himself ready to come on as a replacement for Jordan Thompson.
The ball was in play for at least two minutes there before the midfielder entered the pitch.
And what a sorry night it has turned out to be for Thompson, having to go off after such four minutes of play having been brought into the starting line-up.

Quote MessageHe played well when he came on at the weekend. He has had a little bit of bad luck when it has come to getting a consistent run in the team.
Greece 0-0 Northern Ireland
An early change for Northern Ireland - Jordan Thompson is back on his feet after taking a whack to the head but it's game over for the Stoke City midfielder and he is replaced by George Saville.
Greece 0-0 Northern Ireland
The hosts produce the first shot on goal but a 25-yard effort from Giorgos Masouras drifts well wide.
