Summary

  • Fermanagh 0-23 Down 2-19

  1. That's all folkspublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 19 April

    FT: Fermanagh 0-23 Down 2-19

With no disrespect to Rory Mcllroy, even he would have struggled to produce drama equivalent to what we witnessed in the concluding eight minutes of action at Brewster Park this afternoon.

Fermanagh looked home and hosed in the wet conditions as Conor Love's brilliance helped them lead by seven points beyond the hour mark with their seven-year Ulster drought seemingly about to end.

Down looked a beaten team only for Daniel Guinness to kick a two-pointer to breath a flicker of life into them again.

Suddenly, Fermanagh's previous poise wavered with Guinness allowed to stride through the Erne defence unchallenged moments later as he hammered a low shot to the net after Odhran Murdock had soared to win possession from Sean McNally's kickout.

As two more midfield Murdock midfield fetches set up Pat Havern to slot over points which levelled the contest, Fermanagh continued to reel and Down's comeback was complete as they weaved their way through the Erne defence for Ryan McEvoy to hit the clinching goal.

It was truly extraordinary stuff and manager Kieran Donnelly's head-in-hands despair after the final whistle summed up Fermanagh's devastation.

Here's the first draft of today's match report if you stand any more excitement.

Folks, we'll be back on text commentary duty for tomorrow's final provincial quarter-final between Monaghan and champions Donegal. We'll be very lucky if it produces anything like the drama of today's game.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.
