It's time to draw breath after a typically busy opening day of county championship action.

Plenty of runs in the sun, with Haseeb Hameed's unbeaten 206 the highlight.

But the batters have far from had it all their own way, leaving our games nicely poised heading into day two.

We'll be doing it all over again from 10:30 BST tomorrow - with added James Anderson. So why not us?

Worcestershire, with three batting points safely tucked into their back pocket, make it through to the close.

It will be Ben Allison (34*) and Yadvinder Singh (5*) who return in the morning with the hope of adding some more runs to the total before getting Essex in to bat.

That they are in this position owes much to the partnership between Matthew Waite (73) and Tom Taylor (43) who added almost 100 runs for the eighth wicket.

An interesting day one as Northants started out making serene progress, getting over 100 on the board with only one wicket down.

But, and it's a big but, that's where it all started to go downhill rapidly as they lost nine wickets for 80 runs to be bowled out for 185.

A quite spectacular collapse.

Glamorgan then threatened a collapse of their own as they went from 46-1 to 48-3 in three overs but Sam Northeast and Kiran Carlson settled things down to see them end the day on 82-3 - 103 runs behind.

Ben Allison thinks why not just go for it and heaves Kasun Rajitha for a maximum.

A four later in the same over pushes Worcs to 350 and a third batting point.

The Pears will be pleased with this.

Just two games still in play as we reach the dying embers stage of day one.

Worcs are 14 short of a third batting point and Essex need one wicket to wrap up the Pears' innings.

Glamorgan will hope not to lose any more wickets against Northants.

There are three overs left in Worcester and Cardiff.

Olly Hannon-Dalby does his job and plays out six dots from the final over of the day from Brad Wheal.

Hampshire had looked on the back foot for much of the day.

But James Fuller's counter-attacking fifty took them to two batting points before the visitors removed both Bears openers in the eight overs available.

The south coast side are on top.

Durham send out James Minto to see off the last over of the day with Alex Lees.

Minto drives nicely for two and his skipper has no intention of running a third and facing a ball before the close.

The young bowler survives the final two balls and that's the end of an incredible day of cricket.

Nottinghamshire will be delighted to pick up four batting points after losing seven wickets in the afternoon session.

Today is all about Haseeb Hameed whose unbeaten 206 has put his side in a good position.

A day of two halves as Gloucestershire went off like a steam train, leaving Kent reeling on 36-3 and 64-4 with Ajeet Singh Dale to the fore - he ended with 4-97.

But where Kent's top order failed the middle-order duo of Grant Stewart and Chris Benjamin have played remarkably well and finish the day with an unbroken partnership of 249.

Stewart will begin tomorrow on 173 and Benjamin on 82.

An incredible performance by the duo.

Hampshire will be going back to the hotel feeling a lot better with the day's play.

With the wickets they have taken, they have been able to keep four slips in place.

It's a good day at the office for Surrey as they end on 42-0 with openers Rory Burns (27*) and Dom Sibley (10*) both still in.

They picked up three bowling points after running through Yorkshire for 255.

Whether that turns out to be a good first innings score remains to be seen, but it feels a little light at this stage.

Jonny Bairstow made an excellent 89 off 114 balls for the visitors, while opener Adam Lyth brought about his fourth half-century of the season with 55.

Back again tomorrow to see which way this one swings on day two.

Jordan Buckingham is just a tad too short with his length and Rory Burns just rocks back and punches it through cover with a lovely drive to the boundary.

I think Yorkshire will have to bowl really well to bring some parity into this game.

Rory Burns will be as solid as a rock in this final over.

There it is!

What an innings from Haseeb Hameed who brings up his 200 by stepping down the wicket to launch George Drissell for a huge six over mid-off.

It's come off 240 balls and has put his side in a commanding position. It also brings up a fourth batting point.

He then goes again and takes four more to move to 206.

The captain has seen partners come but is just a few overs from batting through the day.

Rory Burns pushes it down the ground for three from Jordan Buckingham to keep the strike and face George Hill.

Hill puts one up outside off stump, Burns leaves it and Jonny Bairstow ends up taking evasive action at the last second as it runs through for four byes. Looks like it really took off on the way through.

George Bell and George Balderson play out the final over from Zak Chappell, bringing up the first batting point before stumps.

An even day of hard-fought cricket with Derbyshire not letting the hosts get away despite Luke Wells' brilliant knock of 141. Ben Aitchison has led the attack with 3-51.

Tomorrow we should get a bit of James Anderson, folks.
