Mary Earps has been a huge part of the team for a number of years. A huge character, a leader in the team, so she is going to be a big loss. I’m sure she would have come in and spoken to the players and maybe said her reasons to them. It’s a strange time for them. Now they haven’t got one of their main goalkeepers they have known for so long to make a huge impact not going to the Euros and retiring.
But on the other hand, it’s football and you’ve got to move on. For them it is a huge tournament and they have to look forward. They can’t be looking back and thinking what could have been. They have to go and look to try and win the Euros. That is the same for Sarina.
There will be time to appreciate what Mary has done because she has done so much for football, he legacy is unbelievable not just for the Lionesses. There will be time to reflect on that, but for this team they have to put one foot forward now for the Euros.
