Forward Ivan Toney swapped the Premier League for the Saudi Pro League last summer, choosing to make the move from Brentford to Al-Ahli.

He's made 43 appearances in all competitions for the Saudi side, scoring 29 goals.

His record puts him second in the top scorer charts in the division, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo and in front of the likes of Karim Benzema and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Who deserves to be in the England squad? 20 goal involvements for Jacob Murphy in the league this season. As with Dan Burn, it would be great to see him recognised after the career renaissance he’s had.

Surely Livramento has to be one of the names on that sheet, young, can play both sides and been one of the outstanding players for Newcastle. Talking of outstanding players what about Murphy.

  3. Tuchel not scared to make big callspublished at 09:44 British Summer Time 23 May

There are reports that Ivan Toney has been recalled by Thomas Tuchel for the games against Andorra and Senegal.

The forward who now plays for Al Ahli has not been in an England squad since Euro 2024.

Tuchel showed in his first squad that he’s not afraid of making big calls and this would be another one.

Well, I said earlier that we got a few shocks last time and I reckon that can be classed as the first one of the day.

What do we make of that?

Ivan Toney is set for a shock return to the England squad later.

Toney plays for Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia and has been out of the squad since Euro 2024.

But he's set to be back in the squad.

Real-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold could also be called up, with the Spanish side trying to complete his g from Liverpool before the Club World Cup starts.

Manchester City's Phil Foden started Tuchel's first game but has struggled for form this season.

The attacker said he has "struggled" this season because of "things going on off the pitch mentally" and that he has been carrying a bad ankle injury from the Manchester derby on 6 April.

Foden hinted that he "needs a few weeks off" to get it back to 100%, so that could also reignite the club versus country debate if Tuchel picks him.

Harry Kane has been celebrating his first trophy with Bayern Munich and is another one expected to feature for England before going straight to the Club World Cup.

Cole Palmer, who missed the first fixtures under Tuchelis available again, and is another player bound for the Club World Cup, with Chelsea team-mates Reece James, Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke all in contention, with their Europa Conference League final in Poland on 28 May.

With less than two hours until the squad is announced, I genuinely believe Dean Henderson deserves a chance to offer real competition to Pickford. Given the season he’s had, he could offer real competition to Pickford. Will Hughes of Crystal Palace also merits a chance. He might be the midfield option we’ve been craving for.

If you look at the two matches in March, against Albania and Latvia, he [Tuchel] picked seven players to start both matches who were Pickford, Konsa, Lewis-Skelly, Rice, Bellingham, Rashford and Kane. Saka wasn't involved as he was injured so you very much expect him to be in this squad, you'd call him a frontliner.

But he hasn't got time. He's got to sort that core out very quickly. This time next year, all being well for England if they've qualified, then he'll be naming his World Cup squad. This is all wham, bam stuff really.

Djed Spence should have been in the last England squad. Plays both full back positions better than most full backs that were called up, and now also has a Europa League winners medal. There should be no excuse for him not being called up this time. And of course it shouldn’t need repeating at this point but Jordan Henderson should be nowhere near the squad.

Thomas Tuchel announced his first England squad in March, with Marcus Rashford's form for Aston Villa earning him a return to the national team.

Prior to the call up he had last played for the Three Lions in a friendly against Brazil a year earlier. He started both of March's World Cup qualifiers under Tuchel - the 2-0 win against Albania and 3-0 win against Latvia.

Other notable call ups saw Newcastle defender Dan Burn and Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly in the England squad for the first time.

Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson, 34, was also named in the 26-man squad.

The former Liverpool captain had made his senior debut for the national side under the last non-English manager - Fabio Capello - in 2010 and prior to the March call up he had last featured for England against Malta in November 2023.

Let's get you involved nice and early if you will, please.

Who deserves to be in Thomas Tuchel's second England squad - and maybe more importantly - who doesn't?

There were some shocks in the last one but Tuchel gave in-depth reasonings for all of his picks.

Some players, like Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins missed out through injury but could return for their first selection under the new boss today.

Tuchel pulled some real surprises in March, I don't think many people were expecting Dan Burn to be in the squad and, Jordan Henderson came back in from almost nowhere. Marcus Rashford of course, who's been injured with Aston Villa and hasn't been playing but it might well be that he is available.

    Will he retain those players?

Reece James as well was mildly surprising but Thomas Tuchel knows him well and, I think there's a question over Ben White from Arsenal if he's going to end his international exile but he's had injury problems too.

  13. Tuchel will not make deal with Premier League managerspublished at 09:07 British Summer Time 23 May

    Alex Howell
    BBC football news reporter

England manager Thomas Tuchel is set to name a strong squad on Friday, and is unlikely to make deals with clubs despite a heavily congested end of season schedule.

Sources have told BBC Sport the England boss will not offer guarantees to Premier League managers on workload as he wants to work with as many players as possible, for as long as possible.

Tuchel stressed before victories over Latvia and Albania in March that he has a total of just 60 days and 24 sessions with his squad before the 2026 World Cup begins.

The German manager was brought in to replace Gareth Southgate with a remit to win the tournament.

There will be a six-day England training camp from 4-10 June, including a World Cup qualifier in Andorra on 7 June and a friendly against Senegal on 10 June.

Fifa's expanded Club World Cup, held in the United States, starts less than a week later, running from 15 June - 13 July and features Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

The clubs involved in the tournament are eager for nations – not just England - to release their players from June's international window.

However, Tuchel made clear from his first meeting with the players how little time they have together before the World Cup.
