POINTS OF VIEW PRIVACY NOTICE
Points of View is produced by BBC Studios for broadcast, use and exploitation by the BBC. We are responsible for handling personal information you provide, including your contribution, in accordance with data protection law.
What information we collect and how we use it?
When you Points of View (eg via email, phone, social media or WhatsApp) BBC Studios will collect and process the information you provide, for example your name, number, home address, email address, social media handle and the information you are sharing with us via video footage, comments or emails. We will use this information to you if we are interested in finding out more about your opinions before any footage is broadcast.
Comments made publicly online or emails sent to the Points of View email address may be broadcast without further permissions necessary. We will conduct cursory background checks using publicly available information before your comment or footage is broadcast. This is to ensure we are not broadcasting the opinion of an individual with racist, homophobic or sexist views.
BBC Studios relies on its legitimate interests as a media organisation to process your personal information. We will not process your personal information where your rights override our interests.
Retaining your personal information
We will securely store the information you submit for up to one year after broadcast of the series. We do this in case we wish to you for the next series or have any questions about your contribution. If we feature your video or comment on Points of View then your information will be further retained for that purpose.
If you the show and we do not use your comment, your comment and any personal data you submit along with it will be securely deleted after three months.
Sharing your information
Your personal information will generally be restricted to relevant of the Points of View production team and crew. Where necessary, we may also share information with other BBC Studio staff and the BBC, with our professional advisors, and from time to time with other programmes that may have an interest in your contribution.
