We all know that concept albums are an overly used cliché, while cover versions are ten a penny these days, so it's more than just ballsy to jazz up a dozen house favourites and rave classics.
Devoid of a kick drum, and stripped of expensive studio technology, the vocally dextrous Sam Obernik, and acclaimed dance producer Tommy D, have revitalised the overly familiar turning them into beautifully crafted acoustic laments that smoulder as if emanating from smoky jazz club basement.
From their finger-clicking reading of rap standards "White Lines" and "It's Like That", to the smoothing out of the lads anthem "Born Slippy", all now ooze sex appeal and gusto youd never dreamt possible.
Even better is their reading of C&C Music Factory's "Pride", while the melancholic "Hideaway" and sizzling reincarnations of "Gypsy Woman" and "It Just Wont Do" (the latter the song that Obernik fronted with Tim Deluxe not so long ago) make for a wonderful alternative to chill out albums in the more traditional sense of the word. Is it cabaret? Unmistakably. Is it any good? Unbelievably so.
