From the chilled opening bars till the close refrains, Jimpster's first album for Freerangeenvelopes the senses with its hypnotic rhythms and downbeat melodies.
With a handful of beautiful vocal cuts peppered amongst the verdant, instrumental soundscape, you'd be forgiven for thinking he'd unearthed rare soul gems from the 70s and merely added drum loops.
Capitol A's rhymes on the downbeat piano-kissed "Left And Right" sound like Roy Ayers-meets-Guru's Jazzmatazz. The same vibe graces the equally hip "Love You Better", this time finding Alexander East freestyling over the abstract beats.
On the odd occasion that the tempos do rise, deep house chords meld with Diamondancer's tripped out poetic delivery on "A Love Like This", before dipping back down for "Secret Sun" and "Distant Light", two beautifully crafted soul-soaked numbers made with white island sunsets in mind.
Jamie Odell's masterful production (his third in all following on from 2003s Domestic Science) is his best yet: a slick and highly listenable oeuvre of rich textures, warm chords and electronic melodies.
