Brown Sugar was a departure from the sometimes automated sound of R&B in the mid 90's

David O'Donnell 2008

Born in Virginia, 1974, D'Angelo is a widely respected singer, producer & songwriter.

With the release of his debut album Brown Sugar he re-wrote the path of modern R&B. Hailed as the creator of the neo-soul sound, Brown Sugar was a departure from the sometimes automated sound of R&B in the mid 90's. Although the album was slow to gain mainstream recognition it has proved to be an album with true longevity. Stand out tracks include, Alright, Lady, Crusin and of course Brown Sugar.
