He pleases me 231g5e

I was in a restaurant in Nice and the waiter asked me if the I was happy with the meal: Il vous plaît? and I answered: Oui, Il me plaît, lit. yes, it pleases me. Then he asked, et votre ami ?, and your friend? I answered: Oui, il me plaît, aussi, yes, he pleases me, too. He burst into laughter and went into the kitchen where I heard more laughter and the chef came out to look at our table, giggling. It took me all night to finally realize what I had said and then I had a good laugh. Tricky use of indirect pronouns!

Hahahaha! But I would translate il me plaît by I like him, in the sense I fancy him, which explains why the waiter found it so funny!
