Hair in the nose! b3a2c

I had lived in canada for a year as a German exchange student. When I was at university in , I wanted to tell my friends of my first impression at -30°C. I told them: Vous sortez et le froid gèle les cheveux du nez. - "You go out and the cold freezes the hair in the nose". My friends burst out laughing, and then told me that in French cheveux are only the hair on the head, those in the nose (and elsewhere) are called poils. So my description has conjured up the image of someone with long hair hanging from their nose, freezing.
