Years ago, Jérôme, a French guest, accompanied us to the supermaket. Our daughter, then two years old, had the nickname 'Muffie'. She ran off behind an aisle, and I called out 'Muffie, Muffie, where are you?' He looked at me perplexed -'Why do you call out 'My daughter, my daughter'? Yes, he thought I was calling out Ma fille, ma fille !
