Taiwanese American conductor Mei-Ann Chen and BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Ema Nikolovska (mezzo-soprano) both make their BBC Symphony Orchestra debuts.
Mei-Ann Chen has chosen a suite of dances by the African-American composer Florence Price, alongside Paul Hindemith’s witty and exciting Symphonic Metamorphosen on a Theme of Weber - written in the USA while the composer was in exile from in the 1940s.
Ema Nikolovska has chosen four songs from Gustav Mahler’s famous Des Knaben Wunderhorn (The Boy’s Magic Horn) plus a set of songs from the Canadian Métis people - cultural communities who trace their descent to First Nations and European settlers, mainly the French, in the early decades of colonisation - arranged for voice and orchestra by Canadian composer Malcolm Forsyth.
