Concert Information
As part of the BBC’s complete cycle of Vaughan Williams’ symphonies, to mark his 150th anniversary, Ryan Wigglesworth will conduct the rarely performed Symphony No. 4, described by Walton as the ‘greatest symphony since Beethoven’.
The first half will feature Van Cliburn prize winner Vadym Kholodenko in Beethoven’s Emperor Piano Concerto, one of the monumental masterpieces of the repertoire. Vadym Kholodenko is fast building a reputation as one of the most musically dynamic and technically gifted young pianists, praised in his performance with the Philadelphia Orchestra “for his absorbing melodic shading [and] glittering age work” (Philadelphia Enquirer)
The concert will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
