Yn ystod wythnos Sioe Frenhinol Cymru, Annes Wyn Williams, Cynhyrchydd Stori 'Pobol y Cwm' sy’n disgrifio sut aeth y gyfres ati i greu stori ddramatig yn gysylltiedig â'r digwyddiad.
Ar ddechrau wythnos Sioe Frenhinol Cymru 2016, daeth trychineb i Benrhewl, fferm 'Pobol y Cwm'. Cafodd Cadno, sy'n byw yno gyda'i dau blentyn ifanc, Bobi ac Arthur, ddamwain wrth iddi gael ei tharo gan dractor. I wneud y sefyllfa yn fwy trasig fyth, ei phartner, DJ, oedd wrth y llyw.
Fel pob un o'n straeon, dechreuodd y syniadau gymryd siâp tua blwyddyn yn ôl mewn cynadleddau storïo sy’n digwydd rhwng ein hadran olygyddol yn BBC Cymru â'r awduron llawrydd.
Gan fod y bennod dan sylw yn cael ei darlledu yng nghyfnod y Sioe Frenhinol, roeddem yn awyddus i adlewyrchu pwysigrwydd diogelwch tra'n byw ac yn gweithio ar fferm. A gwneud hynny yn y modd mwyaf dramatig posib.
Tra'n datblygu’r stori, edrychom ar y peryglon sy’n wynebu’r sawl sy'n byw ac yn gweithio ar ffermydd a'r hyn allai fynd o'i le. Mae’r lefel yma o waith ymchwil yn bwysig iawn i gyfresi drama fel Pobol y Cwm. Yn aml, drwy’r gwaith ymchwil daw posibiliadau eraill, diddorol ar gyfer ein straeon i’r amlwg. Ar ôl pendroni, penderfynwyd mai Cadno fyddai’n cael ei hanafu mewn damwain ar fuarth y fferm, a dyma’r gwaith o ddatblygu’r bennod yn dechrau...
Gyda golygfa fel hon, daw cyfrifoldeb mawr i fod yn driw i’r stori. Mae’r un peth yn wir ar lefel ymarferol a’r ystyriaeth bwysicaf yw diogelwch y cast a’r criw. Hyd yn oed gydag onglau camera clyfar mae ffilmio gyda pheiriannau trwm angen llawer o gynllunio a thrafodaethau gyda'r cydlynydd ‘stunt’. Mae angen hefyd sicrhau cydbwysedd rhwng creu drama a pheri gofid i’n gwylwyr.
Fel cynhyrchydd stori, mae dangos ôl-effeithiau y ddamwain llawn mor ddiddorol i mi â’r ddamwain ei hun. Gan fod operâu sebon ar y teledu drwy gydol y flwyddyn, mae’n naturiol i’r gynulleidfa deimlo agosatrwydd at y cymeriadau. Mae yna gydymdeimlad â’r hyn sy’n digwydd iddyn nhw, yr effaith gaiff hyn ar eu teuluoedd a’r gymuned yn ehangach. Felly mae cyfrifoldeb arnom ni fel cyfres i adlewyrchu’r cymhlethdodau meddygol ac yn yr achos yma, cawsom nifer o gyfarfodydd gyda meddygon i sicrhau bod anafiadau Cadno yn gredadwy.
Rhaid holi barn cynghorwyr neu arbenigwyr i gael y manylion yn iawn. Yn ddiweddar, buom yn trafod stori trais yn y cartref Ed a Sioned gyda Safer Wales.
Ar gyfer stori Cadno, buom yn trafod goblygiadau Iechyd a Diogelwch damwain fel hyn gydag Agri Advisor, cwmni gwledig o gyfreithwyr a chynghorwyr o ardal Sir Gaerfyrddin. Mae’n bosibl bod rhai gwylwyr wedi wynebu sefyllfa debyg, felly mae'n wirioneddol bwysig ein bod yn cael y manylion yn hollol gywir.
Roedd yn wych gweld pwysigrwydd y stori’n cael ei gydnabod gan Gymdeithas Amaethyddol Frenhinol Cymru. Dywedasant wrthym eu bod yn croesawu'r ffaith bod y peryglon yma yn cael amser darlledu gwerthfawr, gan ei fod yn hanfodol bwysig i godi ymwybyddiaeth o ddiogelwch y fferm a lleihau nifer y damweiniau ar ein ffermydd .
Felly beth nesaf? Wel, yn union fel mewn bywyd go iawn, bydd effeithiau damwain ddifrifol fel hon yn hir dymor – gan greu heriau sylweddol i’n cymeriadau a straeon mwy gafaelgar.

As the Royal Welsh Show week begins, Annes Wyn Williams, Story Producer for 'Pobol y Cwm' describes how a dramatic storyline linked to the event was conceived.
At the beginning of the Royal Welsh Show 2016, disaster struck in Penrhewl, the fictional farm on 'Pobol y Cwm' . Cadno, who lives there with her two young children, Bobi and Arthur, was trapped underneath a bale trailer attached to the back of a tractor. The tractor was driven by her partner, DJ.
As with any of our story lines, the ideas begin to take shape in the storylining conferences we have between our own editorial department and the freelance story liners. As the episode featuring the accident aired during the Royal Welsh Show, we wanted to tell a story that outlined the importance of safety whilst living and working on a farm.
But, as always, we wanted to create the maximum amount of jeopardy and drama for our characters to ramp up the tension for the viewers. Whilst developing our story idea, we looked into the problems and issues facing those working and living on farms and what could possibly go wrong in a scenario that suited our characters.
Research is very important to any drama series, and Pobol y Cwm isn't an exception. We often find that the research we do throws up many interesting possibilities for our storylines. After much discussion, we opted for a scenario where Cadno is involved in an accident on the farmyard, as she is one of the Cwm's best loved characters. Then the work of turning the idea into reality really starts….
With a scene like this one there are so many considerations to be taken into , such as how will we film it safely? Even with clever camera angles, filming with heavy machinery needs a lot of planning and discussions with the stunt co-ordinator. We also need to strike a balance between heightening the drama, whilst taking care not to upset our viewers with graphic scenes.
With a continuing series like 'Pobol y Cwm', showing the after effects of the accident are also very important. The audience follows the plot very carefully and expect the characters to live with the consequences of what happens. To ensure we got this right we met with doctors to make sure that any serious medical complications were believable.
Depending on the storyline we can draw on any number of advisers or experts. Recently, we have been discussing Ed and Sioned’s male domestic abuse storyline with non-profit organisation, Safer Wales.
For the Cadno storyline, we discussed the Health and Safety implications an accident of this type with Agri Advisor, a rural company of solicitors and advisers based in Carmarthenshire. Some of our audience may have faced a similar situation so it’s really important we get the details spot on.
It was great to see the importance of the story recognised by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, who told us they welcomed this issue being given valuable airtime, since it's vitally important to raise the awareness of farm safety and reduce the number of accidents on our farms.
So what next? Well, just as in real life, the effects of a serious accident like this will be long-term – bringing to the screen even more challenges for our characters, and more compelling storylines.
