Fabio Tavares has left Coventry City to Burton Albion on a one-year deal after the Portuguese forward ended the season on loan at the League One club.

The 24-year-old scored two goals and made nine of his 10 appearances off the bench for the Brewers during an injury-hit initial stay at the Pirelli Stadium.

He hurt his hamstring after scoring in a 3-1 defeat by Bristol Rovers in mid-February, which kept him out for eight games, but he did come back to help the east Staffordshire side in their battle to avoid relegation.

While his impact was limited by the injury, Burton boss Gary Bowyer described Tavares as "a wonderful lad with great character".

"He's one of the best finishers at the football club and I'm really excited to be working with him next season," Bowyer told the club website., external

Tavares scored as many league goals for Burton in four months than he managed for Coventry in the four years he was with the Sky Blues, where he was soon to be out of contract.

He initially ed their development squad in February 2021 from Rochdale, who were a League One club at the time.

Tavares made 30 Coventry appearances in all competitions, but started just one league game for them with his 21 other Championship appearances coming as a substitute.
