Northampton sign Man City defender Mbete on loan

Luke Mbete spent time on loan at Bolton in the second half of the 2022-23 season where he played nine times

Northampton Town have signed centre-half Luke Mbete on a season-long loan from Premier League champions Manchester City.

The 21-year-old began his career at Brentford before ing City and made his debut in the EFL Cup in 2021.

An England Under-21 international, Mbete spent loan spells at Bolton and Huddersfield in the Championship before playing last season for Den Bosch in the Dutch second division.

"He fits our profile, he has a lot of attributes as a brave defender but also an intelligent footballer who is comfortable on the ball,” manager John Brady told the club website.

Northampton began their new League One campaign with a 1-0 defeat by Bristol Rovers on Saturday and host Wycombe on Tuesday night in the first round of the EFL Cup.
