Airdrieonians 2-0 Arbroath: Diamonds into promotion play-offs with win

Airdrieonians moved into the promotion play-off places with a hard-fought home victory over Arbroath in the Scottish Championship.

Arbroath started the better but lacked a clinical edge and Josh Rae parried a long-range strike from Craig Slater.

At the other end, Liam McStravick slammed in the rebound for the 19th-minute opener after Nikolay Todorov forced a decent save from Derek Gaston.

As Arbroath pushed for a late equaliser, Airdrie pounced.

Substitute Lewis McGregor latched on to a threaded ball to burst away and slot past Gaston to make sure of the win.

Rhys McCabe's side shift up to fourth, while Arbroath slip down to ninth.
