Brad Hall piloted Great Britain's four-man bobsleigh team to gold in the previous round of the World Cup in Winterberg

Great Britain were edged out by the two strong German teams to finish third in a thrilling World Cup four-man bobsleigh in St Moritz.

Pilot Brad Hall, alongside GB team-mates Taylor Lawrence, Leon Greenwood and Greg Cackett, posted the t fastest time in the first of two runs on the famous Swiss course as they went for back-to-back World Cup golds.

Just one hundredth of a second separated the top four going into the second run, but it was World Cup leader sco Friedrich who finished on top, winning by 0.23 seconds.

The German posted a track record to jump from third place after the opening run to finish in a total time of two minutes 9.13 seconds.

Compatriot Johannes Lochner claimed silver, while Hall was 0.3 seconds off the pace and Switzerland's Michael Vogt was fourth, a further one hundredth back.

Hall remains second in the four-man World Cup standings, 51 points behind reigning champion Friedrich after three of the season's eight races.

The competition continues in Innsbruck, Austria, next Sunday, 19 January.
