Glasgow style: Charles Rennie Mackintosh at 150

7 May 2017

The life and creative legacy of Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh is being celebrated with a new exhibition featuring unseen works, commemorating 150 years since his birth in Glasgow.

A founding father of the globally influential Glasgow Style, Mackintosh’s striking designs for buildings such as the city’s iconic School of Art, and his Art Nouveau furniture won him generations of irers.

In 2014, the architect made news across the world for the most unfortunate reason when the building with which he is most closely associated, Glasgow School of Art, was devastated by fire.

Thanks to a successful donations appeal backed by the likes of Glaswegian Dr Who actor Peter Capaldi and architecture buff Brad Pitt, restoration work has begun to renovate and restore Mackintosh’s most recognisable building to its former glory.
