The Catholic Church has a new pope and it's not just Roman Catholics around the world who have been celebrating.

Louis Prevost, the brother of the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, spoke about how he felt seeing his brother on the famous Vatican balcony for the first time.

"As he crossed over the threshold of the balcony, I saw his forehead, and then his eyes and it almost brought me to tears," Louis said in an interview.

The Pope's brother Louis has spoken about how proud he is of his younger sibling

Pope Leo XIV, whose birth name is Robert Francis Prevost, grew up with two brothers.

They had a typical upbringing, but as the boys grew older, his brother Louis realised their interests were very different.

"We realised he's got something special going on," Louis explained.

"He used to like to play priest a lot."

Robert's brothers used to tease him about becoming pope one day, but little did they know he would actually become the leader of the Catholic church, overseeing 1.4 billion Roman Catholics around the world.

"I think he'll find great joy in it, although it might be hard to be pope and there's a lot of responsibility," Louis said about his brother's new job.

"He can handle it, he's got that personality."
