A man has been arrested after a 24-hour stand-off with police at a caravan park.

Officers were investigating reports of a malicious communications offence at St Helena's Caravan Park in Bramhope, West Yorkshire, on Sunday afternoon.

A siege ensued when the suspect appeared to wield a firearm and armed officers were called to the scene,

West Yorkshire Police said a 56-year-old man was detained at the scene at about 12:45 GMT on Monday.

Emergency services vehicles had surrounded the family-run campsite - a mixture of residential and mobile caravan pitches near Leeds Bradford Airport - overnight.

Leeds Live reported that ambulances, fire engines and bomb disposal officers had been at the site, and a flight tracking website showed a National Police Air Service craft had circled the area for a number of hours.

Ch Insp Pete Hall said: "We would like to thank the residents of the park and anyone else affected for their patience while we worked to bring this incident to a safe conclusion."
