Concrete collapse at multi-million pound school

An engineering survey has been carried out at the newest school in the Borders after concrete fell from a ceiling over the weekend.

The Jedburgh Grammar Campus building was completed only four years ago in 2020.

The £32m school has gone on to win several architectural awards for its design.

But over the weekend precast concrete fell from the ceiling of the fitness suite.

The area was closed off to pupils and staff to allow for structural engineers to carry out investigations during Monday and Tuesday.

All surveys were completed by Wednesday with reassurances provided that there was no further risk of concrete collapse.

Scottish Borders Council confirmed that the fitness suite has now re-opened.

Shortlisted for the 2022 RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award, the campus is renowned for avoiding a traditional school layout.
