Crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist is convicted of libelling a billionaire industrialist and sentenced to three months' imprisonment to be served in six months' time. He is ed by Henrik Vanger, who employs him to discover why his 16-year-old niece disappeared 40 years previously. Blomkvist is assisted by Lisbeth Salander, a troubled young woman with an extraordinary talent for computer hacking.
