The BBC Singers today mark the 90th anniversary of their formation. Later this evening they forces with the BBC SO, performing in Ives’ Symphony no 4 and giving the world premiere of a brand new work by Kevin Volans. In Singers at Six the group reflects on a 90-year commitment to the music of our own time with performances of some of the works written specially for them – from music by Britten, Tippett, Berkeley and others in the Singers’ earliest commissions through to pieces composed in more recent years by composers including Judith Bingham and Gabriel Jackson.
