About this event

The Battle of the Somme, the five-month offensive recognised as one of the bloodiest campaigns of the First World War, took place 100 years ago this summer. Samuel West s the BBC Singers to reflect on that terrible battle, and its catastrophic human cost, in words and music from both sides of the war, and in pieces by composers of the time and of our own day.
