Conductor John Storgårds returns to MediaCityUK to lead the orchestra in this afternoon’s programme and a double serving of Sibelius.
The Bard is reflective and melancholy, full of expressive tenderness, while The Wood Nymph’s frantic energy conjures up visions of Nordic forests and mythical enchantment.
The programme also includes Kay’s Of New Horizons, for which he won an American Broadcasting Company prize in 1946, followed by Coleridge-Taylor’s roistering dance rhapsody The Bamboula.
