The BBC Philharmonic return to Carlisle with the distinguished French conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier and the very talented cellist Leonard Elschenbroich.
The programme begins with Elgar's Cockaigne Overture, which, like Vaughan Williams' Symphony No. 2, is a musical portrait of London. The elegiac Walton Cello Concerto completes the first half. After the interval we travel to the Mediterranean for Ravel's colourful Rhapsodie Espagnol and orchestral excerpts from Bizet's much loved opera Carmen. Under the baton of Yan Pascal Tortelier these two works will light up the Sands Centre with their brilliance.
