Max Richter’s Recomposed is the composer’s celebrated 21st-century reimagining of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Here, violinist Thomas Gould and the Britten Sinfonia give the Proms premiere of Richter’s unique blend of Baroque precision with hypnotic contemporary minimalism. Lera Auerbach’s reworking of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater looks back to the 18th century, in the same way that Michael Tippett drew inspiration from Corelli in his Fantasia concertante.
