About This Event
If you weren’t aware that Mozart arranged Messiah for a late-18th century orchestra, you are in good company. From 1800–1950, the piece was more frequently played in his re-orchestration, but over the last 70 years it has completely fallen out of fashion.
We Britten Sinfonia, soprano Hilary Cronin, alto Helen Charlston and our Chief Conductor Sofi Jeannin for Handel’s iconic oratorio in Mozart’s compelling version, abundant in rich and surprising textures created by the addition of trombones, horns, flute and clarinet.
This concert will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Tuesday 19 December.
