About this event

First the sunny surfaces and barely contained energy of Beethoven's Fourth Symphony. Next, a favourite Proms performer in the last of five discreetly glittering, very French piano concertos he has done so much to champion in recent years.

After the interval, a major peak of Romanticism as conceived by one of this year's anniversary composers, Liszt, whom the young Saint-Saëns knew and greatly ired.

Written back to back with the Faust Symphony heard earlier in the season, Liszt's Dante Symphony should leave listeners looking to the heights of Heaven.
