Guided by the outstanding conductor Sir Andrew Davis, tonight’s adventures run from Edwardian London, in the shape of Elgar’s glorious urban hymn, to the majestic countryside of Finland, courtesy of Sibelius’s First Symphony. The route, though, is a scenic one, as pianist Kathryn Stott – a resident of Manchester and a longstanding friend of the BBC Philharmonic – takes us via Russia for Rachmaninov’s youthful and effortlessly Romantic masterpiece.
