Soweto Kinch – jazz saxophonist, hip hop artist, curator and presenter – has developed an enviable presence on the UK music scene. Tonight he hosts a special edition in Sunderland of his acclaimed late-night Radio 3 show ’Round Midnight, which celebrates the best in jazz from all eras and from around the globe, as well as giving a platform to new UK artists. ‘There’s such a breadth and diversity of expression within what we call jazz,’ says Kinch. So expect an eclectic mix of special guests and chat, including Grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter Theo Croker, who performs tracks from his hotly anticipated new album Dream Manifest, and the boundary-pushing Joe Webb Trio, which celebrates Oscar Peterson 100 years after his birth. Opening the evening is North East jazz artist Rivkala, recently spotlighted by BBC Music Introducing as one of its ‘Ones to Watch for 2025’.
